What is the Environment Industry?

Statistics Canada defines the environment industry, mainly as consisting of businesses producing goods and services that measure, prevent, limit or correct environmental damage (both natural or by human activity), to water, air and soil, or which deal with problems of waste, noise reduction and ecosystems protection. Technologies that reduce material inputs and engineering consumption or recover useful by-products are also considered environmental sector offerings.

Examples include:

  • Water and wastewater technologies
  • Environmental engineering
  • Clean energy technologies
  • Waste management technologies
  • Remediation technologies
  • Instrumentation and analytical services

Who are MEIA’s members?

The MEIA’s membership is a diverse group of Manitoba companies and organizations – environmental technology and service companies, engineering and environmental consulting firms, government departments, law firms, businesses, research companies, associations and community organizations. What services are provided by the MEIA?

  • Training and workshops on relevant topics in the sector including such things as:

    • Remediation and prevention workshops
    • ISO 14064 training
  • Networking opportunities which create awareness of opportunities in adjacent sectors and serve to strengthen the sector in the Province
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration between members
  • Advocating to Government and sector members for topics important to the environmental industries sector
  • Associated services for members
  • Clearing house for information on the environmental industries sector within Manitoba
