This workshop is designed to support leaders and organizations in building respectful, informed, and lasting relationships with Indigenous communities. This workshop supports both Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants in developing a deeper understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and strengthening how they engage in business, governance, and community partnerships.

Participants will gain practical insight into communication, decision-making, business etiquette, and economic reconciliation. By understanding Indigenous history, Treaties, governance systems, and cultural protocols, participants are better equipped to engage in ways that build trust and avoid misunderstandings that can damage relationships.

A lack of cultural awareness often leads to frustration, misinterpretation, and loss of trust. This training supports a shift in perspective and behaviour so that relationships are built on respect, shared understanding, and long-term success.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

• Understand why Indigenous Economic Engagement is essential in today’s business and governance environments, Explore common myths and misconceptions and their impacts

• Learn the historical and contemporary context of Indigenous Peoples, including the legacy of residential schools

• Understand Treaties and Territories, The treaty-making process, Numbered treaties

• Compare traditional and contemporary forms of governance, Indigenous and Western worldviews, How these systems influence leadership and decision-making

• Understand community and cultural protocols, Community values and spiritual connection to land, Family and kinship systems

• Learn how to engage respectfully and effectively, Socio-economic realities, Cultural differences

• Explore Nation-to-Nation relationships: What partnership truly means, building a shared vision where everyone benefits
