Safety First Training for Waste Management Site Workers
Communities across Manitoba are actively diverting many types of material from disposal into landfills. Community clean ups have resulted in the collection of material that require special handling and storage including:
End of Life Vehicles (ELVs) - vehicle batteries, used oil and scrap tires
Appliances and scrap metal
Other household products - cans, bottles, old TV sets and computers, propane tanks, small household batteries
The workers who are responsible for collecting, packing, storing and eventually staging this material for removal from a community need to ensure they are working safely and with the proper tools and training to do their jobs.
The fact is, there are potential hazards to workers, the public and the environment when material is diverted from the landfill and collected.
To ensure a safe work area, workers need to control and eliminate hazards and unsafe conditions to minimize the risk. Workers need to also identify both actions and behaviours from themselves or co-workers that may be potentially harmful. The safety tips you will learn in Safety First Training for Waste Management Site Workers will help facility workers develop positive safety habits and reinforce a Safety First working environment.
