Intro to Environmental Science and Law in Manitoba

This course will provide an overview of the Canadian legal framework including the history of environmental law and how laws are made.

It will include a more detailed examination of the regulatory framework for environmental law in Manitoba with a focus on Environmental Assessment, The Environment Act, The Dangerous Goods Handling and Transportation Act, The Contaminated Sites Remediation Act and The Waste Reduction and Prevention Act.

Discussion will focus on the regulatory process to obtain an approval and how to comply with legislation.

Day One

The first session will cover our environmental impact, including invasive species, climate change, and world views. Topics include using science to solve environmental issues, energy-related ecosystems, and preserving vital resources like water, soil, and agriculture.

Day Two

The second session will overview environmental history, legislation, and economics, focusing on Manitoba's key laws and regulatory processes. It will also cover how your work intersects with environmental law and where to find additional resources.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

• Industry professionals with a workplace safety and health orientation who are involved in broader environmental issues as a part of their work

• Recent College and University Graduates (under 5 years industry experience)
